The Office's biggest soprano cameo in the wrong episode

The Sopranos' Christopher actor Michael Imperioli made a cameo on The Office season 9, but his cameo was better suited for another episode.

The Office had an exciting cameo from The Sopranos actor Michael Imperioli, but his appearance was saved for the wrong episode. Over its nine seasons, The Office was able to guest star an impressive array of TV stars and celebrities from the era. These guest stars include Jim Carrey, Bob Odenkirk, Ricky Gervais, Josh Groban, Jessica Alba and Christian Slater. While most of The Office's guest stars have played roles that fit perfectly with their characters, others have missed cameo opportunities.

The Sopranos ended just as The Office took off, but throughout the sitcom timeline, the rogue series' popularity remains strong. So it's still exciting to see The Sopranos' Christopher Moltisanti actor Michael Imperioli make a cameo near the end of The Office. Imperioli appeared in The Office's season 9 episode, "Dreams Come True," in which he briefly portrayed Dwight Schrute's karate teacher, Sensei Billy. "Living the Dream" turned out to be a good episode, but the presence of the sopranos was largely forgotten. However, that may not be the case if Imperioli guest-stars on another episode of The Office.

Michael Imperioli’s Cameo Should Have Been In “Mafia”

instead of pit Michael Imperioli's cameo in the season 9 scene would have been much better in the season 6 episode "Mafia" at The Office. Throughout "The Mafia," Dande Mifflin's boss, Michael Scott, is convinced that Blank is the leader of the Mafia, so this would be a perfect opportunity to bring a man from the Sopranos to life. Actor plays his role. Had Michael Imperioli been cast as Grotti, The Office's "Mafia" storyline could have been more interesting and would have been a hilarious way for Michael Scott to take on Christopher Mortisanti.

At this point, The Office is still thriving on TV, starring Michael Scott, but the absence of Jim and Pam in "Mafia" means it could have started with an exciting guest star benefits in order to replace their missing subplots. Considering Michael Imperioli is known for playing one of the greatest gangster characters in The Sopranos, the opportunity to not cast him in The Mafia was missed. This is not to discredit Mike Starr's stellar performance as Grotti. Imperioli's character fits better as a would-be mafia in "Mafia" than as Mr. Billy in "Dreams Come True."

Why The Office’s Sopranos Cameo Was Still Great

Although Imperioli failed to bring back his mafia experience to the office, In a mediocre season, his cameo was still an interesting moment. Seeing The Sopranos' Christopher give Dwight his long-awaited black belt made Rainn Wilson's character journey even more exciting. "Livin' the Dream" also had some of its best moments in The Office season 9 thanks to the Dwight, Jim, and Pam storyline, so if Michael Imperioli is going to appear in any episode of the final season, this one is about right.
